Timothy Nelson served as Head of Music for the Netherlands Opera Studio from 2011-2014. Having studied harpsichord, collaborative keyboards, and conducting at Indiana University, he has led numerous productions in North America and Europe, including Charpentier's “David et Jonathas” at the Brooklyn Academy of Music, and the national touring production of “Acis and Galatea”. He also led the American premier of Cavalli's “La Didone” for the Washington Early Music Festival. His interpretations have been hailed by the New York Times, Washington Post, and Baltimore Sun. Recently he has worked with  London's Academy of Ancient Music. While at the Netherlands Opera Studio he conducted performances of Cavalli's “La Calisto” and Charpentier's “Le Descent d'Orphee aux Enfers” and “Les Plaisirs de Versailles”. 2014 saw him conduct performances of Monteverdi “L'Incoronazione di Poppea” at the Center for Opera Studies in Italy, where he will returned in 2015 to conduct performances of “La Calisto”. He also conducted productions of “Alcina” for the Accademia Europea dell'Opera, and served as a director of music for the Canadian Operatic Arts Academy. He is Artistic Director of the Venice Opera Project where this year he conducted numerous concerts and performances of Cavalli's “Gli Amori d'Apollo e di Dafne”, and will in 2015 conduct Handel's “Agrippina”. While active as a harpsichordist and scholar of early opera, Nelson has also conducted performances of Vaughn William's “Riders to the Sea” for Amsterdam's Grachtenfestival, and Vivier's “Love Songs” for the Rotterdam Opera, and is active as a vocal coach, conductor, and lecturer at the Royal Hague Conservatory, Amsterdam Conservatory, and the University of Western Ontario. He is a regular adjudicator of the Internationaal Vocalisten Concours, serves as Artistic Adviser to the Belvedere International Vocal Competition, and is Artistic Director of the Rotterdam Operadagen Nieuwe Stemmen young artist program.  Upcoming conducting projects include Gluck's "Orphee et Eurydice" for Grand Rapids Opera with the Grand Rapids Symphony, Cavalli's "La Calisto" with English Touring Opera, and the full Monteverdi Trilogy with Rotterdam Opera.
